Welcome to the Investigator Manual teachers pack and thank you for choosing to incorporate one of Queensland’s largest infrastructure projects, Cross River Rail, into your lesson units and participate in the Future Travellers Passport activity.

In this activity young Virtual Experience Centre visitors will be guided through the Science of Tunnelling program and be encouraged to put their knowledge to the test in a fun information gathering scavenger hunt.

They will do this by learning the content and exploring the Experience Centre virtually and completing their Investigator Manual booklets.
As students work through the questions, they will gain a deeper understanding for the science principals that are involved in tunnelling projects all over the world.

Equipment

There are a few items that will be required to complete the activity. The below listed items are calculated per student:

  • Tablet
  • Pen

Run Sheet

The recommended run sheet and time allocation for this activity is 1 hour. However, you can scale this up or down depending on how much time you have available:

  • Introduction to the Project (10 mins): Here you can ask students if they know anything about the project, visit the website and watch the Project Overview video.
  • Self-Explore (10 mins): Allow students to do their own preliminary investigation.
  • Tunnel Vision Video (5 mins): Show the students the Tunnel Vision video to get an idea of the science of tunnelling principles.
  • Activity Time (20 mins): Explain the activity and allow students 20 minutes to answer the questions.
  • Activity Results (10 mins): As students finish their activities ask them to swap their answer cards with their neighbours and go through the answers video. End of activity.
